About Us...
Welcome to the Playgroups, Inc. website! We are a non-profit organization dedicated to parents and their children (infant through preschoolers). Our mission is to help develop both the child and the parent through educational and social programs. In order to achieve this mission, we help set up small groups of parents who then decide where, when, and how often to meet with each other. We also hold open play dates and organization-wide educational outings so that parents can meet people outside of their group. Current events and topics, along with other helpful information is distributed via a monthly newsletter and a board meeting in which all members are invited to attend. We are based out of Monroe County, Pennsylvania and are currently serving a membership of over 80 families. Please feel free to look around and email us with any questions or comments!

Message from the President ......
It is with heavy hearts that the 2009-2010 Board of Volunteers must inform you that Playgroups Inc., as a non-profit, will be “closing its doors” effective 2/28/2010. When Playgroups was incorporated in 1988 by Donna Fernald, there was great need for a way that parents with children could connect with other parents of similar ages and interests. As you can imagine, back then before the advent of instant messaging, email, and websites, it was hard for families to make these connections in a rural area such as Monroe County. Throughout the years, Playgroups has tried to keep the original founders’ ideals while adapting to the changing technology and communication methods. However, over the past few years with the emergence of other parent/child groups, Playgroups has struggled with declining membership numbers, reduced interest in
participation with smaller playgroups, lack of member participation in the Board of Volunteers and events in general.
The Board of Volunteers share in your disappointment. Several board members and members at large have been in Playgroups for more than 7 years. Playgroups has afforded us the opportunity to make close friendships and experience the Pocono region in ways that we might not have been able to without it. The current Board of Volunteers wishes to acknowledge all the hard work, dedication, creativity and energy of previous board members and members at large who have given of their time and talents.
We realize that there are several of you who have just joined Playgroups in recent months. Playgroups will be refunding part of your membership fee on a pro-rated basis based on your length of time in the group. We hope that many of you will maintain the contacts you have made through Playgroups.
We will close out this month with a few activities, and hope that you will take full advantage of the remaining time we have left together as a group. Please see full details in the newsletter online. Also, please feel free to contact myself at jvaledofsky@yahoo.com or Cindy Christmann, Vice President at caclsp@ptd.net. Last but not least, the Board of Volunteers would like to invite you to a “Farewell Party” on February 28th at Chestnuthill Community Center. Hope to see you then.
Warmly,
Jen Valedofsky, President
